Laborer
Function:
Performs a variety of services to maintain facility material condition and cleanliness. Assist operations and maintenance as required. Fulfill a variety of material handling tasks.
Description:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performs janitorial tasks in office, restrooms, locker room, control room, and facility areas on a regular basis.
- Runs errands for facility-related matters.
- Cleans, preserves, and paints equipment and the facility.
- Assists operations and maintenance personnel by performing miscellaneous tasks during outages.
- Assist maintenance crews by building scaffolds, clearing areas to be worked, providing safety surveillance, and supporting job activities.
- Rigs and operates various material handling equipment. Fork lift, front end loaders, bridge cranes and trucks.
- Assists operations in the performances of operational duties as assigned, such as Crane Operator.
- Provides messenger and material delivery and supply services for the facility.
- Operator of plant’s rolling stock as needed.
- Fill-in as scale house attendant or recycle attendant, once qualified.
- Perform winter related tasks as plowing, shoveling, sanding and making area safe for driving and walking.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Speak, read, write and understand English.
- Possess a Class “C” Maine vehicle license.
- Ability to take, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 75 feet and more; crawl through confined areas; work from manlifts; moderate to heavy lifting required. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; climb vertical access ladders and stairwells; work in the plant in hot conditions; must be able to wear a respirator and use other personal protective equipment and other safety equipment as required.
- Requires lifting, pushing and pulling of 80+ pounds consistently.
- Requires walking and bending.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess required knowledge of Corporation policies and regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with public and maintain a working relationship with staff.
- Flexible with hours to perform unexpected clean-up, plowing and filling vacant positions.
- Custodial or other relevant experience.
- Ability to perform all of the duties of the job.
